April Ross

April Ross was one of just a handful of women beach volleyball athletes who earned medals during several Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross in Tokyo to win her third gold medal in the coming days. Ross's aim is to get her first Olympic gold medal. At 39 this may be her final chance to achieve it. She's certain that the top prizes are within reach. Ross was reported on NBC Boston as saying that If you put in your highest, and even do well, we'll get the gold. Also, it's the result of luck. Ross was born August 22, 1982, in Costa Mesa California. She resided there together with her parents. In addition to competing in various sports, Ross also attended Newport Harbor High School. Apart from playing indoor volleyball, she also ran track and basketball as a pre-collegiate athlete. While she did well in indoor volleyball but it was apparent that her skills were above normal. In her own biography her high school days, she was a volleyball player as an outside hitter (middle blocker) and setting (outside blocker). As a tribute to her efforts she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her in volleyball. Ross is playing alongside Klineman since the year 2017. However, Ross's beach game was well-established long before this. In fact, she won multiple major tournaments with two different partners, one of which is a volleyball icon. Jennifer Kessy was her partner for six years, from 2007 until 2013. She also coached Klineman as well as herself. Kessy was Ross's partner on the World Championships in 2009. The duo eventually captured an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings the legendary team that won the 2012 Olympic Games in London, edged them out to win the gold medal. As fate would have it Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball medal at Rio Olympics in 2016 along with Walsh Jennings. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC after high school. It was a long time before Ross went to the beach and became a professional. The time she spent at USC was awe-inspiring. As a freshman in 2000 she earned Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year accolades. She also earned an All-American. In 2000, her Trojans made it to the Final Four. She endured a great personal loss in her sophomore, yet was capable of achieving the All-American distinction. In her last two seasons with the Trojans team, she led the team to win a national championship each year. For her part Ross established her status as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the best female volleyball players at colleges across the United States. Ross was a student of International Relations at USC. Margie Ross did not see her daughter achieve the heights of the beach volleyball ladder. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001 when Ross was still in the midst of being a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. She has kept her mother in her heart. Margie at the beach and in daily life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
