Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (Greek American) is a Greek American writer, syndicated-columnist and businesswoman. She was co-founder of The Huffington Post, is the founder and CEO of Thrive Global as well an writer of 15 novels. Arianna Huffington, an independent liberal news site and a television host as well as a writer and philanthropist. Originally from Greece she moved to England when she was 16 and graduated from Cambridge University with an MA in Economics. At 21 she became head of the famous debate society The Cambridge Union' and was the first foreign student in the history of Cambridge University to be elected. As a conservative syndicated blogger when she graduated, she was able to be a voice of the Huffington Post. Arianna was able to attract many prominent contributors to share their thoughts regarding politics and culture. Arianna's celebrity status began in 2003, when she was a candidate for an independent for the California recall election to succeed Governor Davis. In addition, she directed the Detroit project to promote fuel efficient cars. Forbes identified her as the top female in the media industry in 2009. The newspaper was ranked as 12th on the ranking. The Guardian also included her to the list of 100 most influential media in 2009. AOL bought The Huffington Post from AOL in 2011. She was then made the head of the media division at AOL.
